Barnsley makes an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Pennine hill country and secluded wooded valleys. Many such locations recently used for filming Emmerdale, Last of the Summer Wine and Heartbeat.

Modern Centres such as Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield are but a short drive away and offers excellent shopping together with museums, galleries and many other attractions to visit.

Why not visit the magnificent city of York (approximately 1 hours drive from the hotel) steeped in history. A sight seeing trip around York Minster is a must, not forgetting to visit the Shambles before returning home.

The Elsecar Heritage Centre featuring steam trains, Newcomen & Beam engine and craft workshops is always worth a visit. The historic village of Cawthorne features the Cannon Hall Museum Park & Gardens, with a majestic 18th century country house set within grounds.

Rooms

All of the 75 rooms are en-suite with colour TV, courtesy tray, hairdryer, trouser press and direct dial telephones with modem point to enable you to use your PC, and of course the famous Forestdale ducks in the bathroom. Some rooms have air conditioning.

There are some rooms which are classed as 'Cosy' rooms, being slightly smaller in size than a Standard room and also Premier bedded rooms which are larger.

Restaurant

The Allendale Restaurant, with views over the lawns and woodlands, prides itself in offering a wide range of dishes from the table d'hote menu and extensive a la carte menu, featuring the Barnsley Chop.

In warmer times meals can be taken out on to the patio protected with large umbrellas with heaters.

Leisure Club

The hotel has its own luxury health club, which features an indoor heated swimming pool, spa pool, steam room, sauna, solarium and gymnasium. The Spa has three air-conditioned treatment rooms offering a selection of treatments to relax and pamper you. Our motto really is "Our House Is Your House"!

We offer flexibility, in order to achieve your specific requirements, and top class customer service, both of which are a winning formula.

Our extensive facilities enable us to cater for up to 300 people in our main suite that is particularly popular for wedding parties and the terrace and gardens present beautiful photographic opportunities. We can offer both civil ceremony and reception locations to suit all different needs.

Both the Lounge Bar and the Cocktail Bar offer pleasant surroundings for either a pre-dinner drink or an after-dinner liqueur and coffee.

Conferences

The Ardsley House Hotel is the former home of one of Yorkshires most prominent families the Micklethwaites, associated with Yorkshire for over six centuries. Built in the late 18th Century, now greatly extended and modernised the imposing building still retains many of its original Georgian features.
All 75 bedrooms are en-suite with modern amenities including direct dial telephones and modem points for PC access. From the moment you arrive at the hotel you will be made to feel most welcome. The hotel is conveniently located just 10/15 minutes drive from the M1 and has extensive free car parking for residents and conference delegates.
