In 1979 my wife and I converted this comfortable Victorian House into a country house hotel with 15 double bedrooms and a restaurant. Since then our efforts have been rewarded by recognition in all the major guide books as amongst the very best outside London, both for the comfort of the hotel and the quality of our food.

However we have no intention of being taken in by all the kind words that have been said about us. We know that every day is a new day, in which we have to recreate the magic.

If we generally succeed it is because we have an enthusiastic and professional staff, a spectacular lakeside setting, a comfortable and elegant interior and, most important of all, a clientele composed of people who come to Hambleton to enjoy themselves, and keep coming back.

Hambleton Hall is located in the heart of Rutland, and less than two hours journey from London. While Rutland may be the smallest county in Britain, it offers a whole host of activities and attractions. There is a wealth of local country houses, museums and historic buildings along with antique shops, fine art galleries and delightful gardens which are open to the public.

For the discerning traveller, there are many colourful local market towns which appeal to visitors to the area. These include Oakham, Stamford, Uppingham and Melton Mowbray which have a wide range of shops and attractions to cater for all tastes. There are also some very interesting places a short car journey away such as Exton, Lincoln, Peterborough, Ely and Cambridge.
