The history of Beamish can be traced right back to the Norman Conquest and since then the Hall has been a home to several generations of prominent local families. Several areas of the hotel are now named in commemoration of these notable occupants.

Five generations of the Monbouchers originally occupied Beamish Manor, the last family member dying in 1400. The Monboucher is now a classically proportioned function suite with full height feature bay windows overlooking the grounds.

In 1739 Beamish Hall became the home of the Eden family, who lived there until 1904. The restaurant now takes its name from that link.

The Hall eventually came into the Shafto family, following the death of Mr Slingsby Eden, but was sold in 1949 to pay off generous death duties. In complete contrast to The Monboucher, the Shafto Hall is a dramatic oak panelled function suite with a small minstrels' gallery.

Accommodation

With luxurious fittings and fixtures the bedrooms provide sumptuous accommodation furnished in a traditional style. We offer three different types of rooms: Classic, De Luxe and Premier. Special rates apply when the rooms are booked in conjunction with a wedding reception or conference at Beamish Hall.


The Eden Restaurant

The Eden Restaurant is located on the first floor, next door to the Eden Lounge. It is open every evening except Sunday, and for Sunday lunches too.

Oak tables, carved dressers and heavy brocade curtains add to the richness of the setting and the restaurant can accommodate 75 covers.

Executive Chef and Operations Manager, Richard Bell, has created exciting and innovative menus that use fresh, local produce. A two-course table de hote meal is priced at just £14.95 and there is also an interesting selection of a la carte dishes. Sunday lunch is £10.95 for two courses and £14.95 for three.

Weddings

The fabulous country house hotel, with extensive grounds, provides the perfect backdrop for photographs that you will share and cherish. Inside the ambience is grand and traditional, with all the character that can help to make a wedding truly memorable.

With a choice of three function suites, The Monboucher, Shafto Hall and Winter Garden, we can offer the ideal venue to meet your requirements. Each suite has its own exclusive bar area.

The hall is licensed for civil weddings, so that your marriage can move seamlessly from ceremony to celebration. Couples often choose the Common Room for the Civil Wedding, but they may also be married in other areas of the Hall. Those seeking to be married at the Hall are required to give Notice of Marriage to the Superintendent Registrar at Stanley Register Office.

Conferences

The Hall is within easy commuting distance of both Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne and conveniently located just off the A1(M).

With a choice of function suites and meeting rooms to accommodate from 12 - 400 delegates or guests, we can provide flexible facilities to suit your conference, private party or corporate event.

The State Room, Common Room and Board Room are ideal for formal meetings and presentations, and have conference equipment that includes a projector, wall-mounted screen, 'wipe on/wipe off' scribble boards and flip chart. These rooms can also be transformed into intimate dining areas for private parties.

For larger numbers, The Monboucher, Shafto Hall and Winter Garden can accommodate all types of function, from an awards ceremony to a black-tie gala ball. The Hall's extensive grounds provide additional opportunities and space for events. Golf can also be arranged at the adjacent course, subject to the availability of tee times.

The Monboucher

A beautiful room with some wonderful original features and large bay windows overlooking the garden. With a timeless elegance, the suite can comfortably accommodate up to 140 guests.

Shafto Hall

A magnificent suite complimented by oak panelling, stained glass windows and a hand-carved fireplace. High ceilings,chandeliers and tapestries enhance the grandeur of the setting and the room can seat up to 180 guests.

Winter Garden

Following a complete refurbishment, the original Winter Garden now provides a unique location for larger functions. This spectacular, light and airy space opens onto the gardens and can accommodate up to 400 guests.
